December Resurrection Salmon Derby offers $10K 1st Place Prize
The 2nd annual Resurrection Derby takes place at the Port of Friday Harbor on San Juan Island December 2 and 3, coinciding with the start of the winter salmon season. A maximum of four anglers in 100 boats will be competing for $15,000 in guaranteed prize money, including $10,000 for first place.
This is a selective fishery, in which only hatchery marked fish may be retained. The organizers of the tournament hope to raise awareness of the benefits of sport and selective fishing, while promoting resource stewardship. All proceeds will go to salmon enhancement projects.
Organized by the Puget Sound Anglers, the event kicks off the Festival of Lights Holiday season. Last year's tournament saw great fishing, and a big influx of high profile teams to the island. Fox Sports Northwest's Hawgquest filmed a great program, showcasing the town and island, of what proved to be one of the premier tickets in the Northwest Salmon Derby Series.
This truly is a can't miss event for a good cause. ESPN Radio's The Outdoor Line will be doing a live broadcast from the Port. There should be a lot of excitement from noon to 4 p.m. each day at the weigh ins on the dock at Friday Harbor Seafood.
Hope to see a lot of local teams there! Tickets are available online now at resurrectionderby.com, and will be in stores mid-October. Cost is $400 per 4 person team. Limit 100 boats.
