At least seven Wolverines advance to state track and field meet

At least seven Friday Harbor athletes will be attending the 2019 Class 2B State Track and Field Championships after winning their events at the Bi-District Meet Saturday, May 18 in Coupeville.

Sophomore Emily Vogel set personal records in winning the 800- and 1600-meter runs in 2:33.96 and 5:35.26. Senior Jaclyn Domenech won the 400 in a personal-best 1:04.82. Junior Brianna Hess finished first in the 200 sprint with a PR of :27.63. The Wolverines’ 4 x 100 relay team of Domenech, junior Katie Place, Hess and sophomore Alex Holman earned gold medals with a :52.76 effort — nearly a second faster than runner-up longtime rival La Conner. Junior Joanna Evans will make the trip to the state meet in Cheney as the 4 x 100 squad’s alternate.

Senior Ryan Schaefer will represent the Friday Harbor boys after winning the discus event with a toss of 121 feet, three inches.

“I’m so proud of everyone of my kids,” said Friday Harbor coach Shannon Plummer. “Nobody gave up, nobody quit.”

The Friday Harbor girls placed second in the team standings with 83 points. The other girls’ scores are: 1. La Conner 119; 3. Crosspoint 51; 4. Seattle Lutheran 24; 5. Concrete 22.

Friday Harbor’s boys also finished second in team points. The other team tallies are: 1. La Conner 164; 3. Crosspoint 35; 4. Concrete 21; 5. Seattle Lutheran 14.

After statewide results are compiled additional Wolverines might qualify for the state championships at Eastern Washington University May 23-25.

The Friday Harbor girls set several personal records at Bi-District. Their results are:

100 - 3. Katie Place :13.31 PR; 4. Alex Holman :13.48.

200 - 1. Brianna Hess :27.63 PR; 4. Alex Holman :29.44.

400 - 1. Jaclyn Domenech 1:04.82 PR.

800 - 1. Emily Vogel 2:33.96 PR.

1600 - 1. Emily Vogel 5:35.26 PR; 4. Ella Flynn 6:00.11 PR; 5. Janay Geiser 6:08.70 PR.

3200 - 2. Ella Flynn 13:37.21; 4. Janay Geiser 14:20.44.

100 Hurdles - 2. Katie Place :17.12.

300 Hurdles - 3. Katie Place :51.34 PR.

4 x 100 Relay - 1. Jaclyn Domenech, Katie Place, Brianna Hess, Alex Holman :52.76.

Javelin - 4. Janay Geiser 73-09.

Long Jump - 3. Jaclyn Domenech 14-00; 4. Joanna Evans 13-00.

Triple Jump - 2. Joanna Evans 29-02.50.

Friday Harbor’s boys also posted a number personal-best marks at Bi-District. Their results are:
