Friday Harbor HS Senior basketball players beat the staff 27-21

Friday Harbor High School senior basketball players - with some help from younger players - won the annual Seniors vs Staff basketball game 27-21 on March 8, 2019.  The seniors went up by eight points before the staff were able to score their first basket. The game was tied for much of the game before the seniors pulled ahead in the last few minutes of the game.

The game, co-sponsored by the San Juan Island Prevention Coalition and FHHS PTSA, is a fundraiser for Grad Night. Besides the admission donations, more funds for Grad Night were raised through the sale of "arrest warrants" and "get out of jail free cards", an incredible silent dessert auction, a live auction for a two-night stay at Snowater Resort in Glacier. Four contestants wowed the crowd by making half court shots. It cost a $1 per shot.

Entertainment included the band, Procrastination, performing "Sweet Caroline" and  an unusual group of cheerleaders leading the crowd.

The purpose of Grad Night is to provide a fun, safe celebration. The students are collected after graduation in buses and transported from one event to another throughout the night. Grad night committee members are working hard to put together a full evening of fun experiences. Planning for the event is hush-hush, with parents sworn to secrecy.

Grad night is supported by fundraising and donations from local businesses. As one local business person said, “it’s a worthy cause to support, what can be more important than keeping our kids safe!” If you’d like to be a Grad Night sponsor, or make a (tax-deductible) contribution, please contact Tanja Williamson at 360-472-0337.
