Santa lights up the town

Singers, young and old, sang carols, as islanders  waited for Santa to turn on the lights festooning the two tall elms in Memorial Park. San Juan Island Chamber of Commerce's Island Lights Festival drew crowds on a rainy, chilly evening December 2, 2016 in Friday Harbor.

Prior to gathering at the park, people attended an Open House at The Whale Museum where they made ornaments. Then the carolers - the Elementary School Choir, the Keynotes Youth Chorus and Angel Michaels and the Island Chordsman Plus - led the way down the hill to Memorial Park.

Following the tree lighting, attendees gathered at  Brickworks to visit with Santa,  make crafts with Island Rec, and see the ballerinas from the Salish Sea Ballet.

Brickworks and the San Juan Islands Agricultural Guild served up local harvest vegetable soup and bread, along with spiced apple cider and hot chocolate.
