Meredith Jane Barnett July 17th, 1952 - February 21, 2024

Meredith Jane Barnett, 71, of Friday Harbor, Washington died in Sunriver, Oregon on February 21st, 2024 surrounded by family.

She was born on July 17th, 1952 in Los Angeles, California to Frank and Gwendolyn Watson. She spent the first 30 years of her life in Southern California from Malibu and Playa del Ray to Pacific Palisades and Topanga Canyon frolicking on the beaches and mingling with famous musicians (oh, the stories she had!).

She met her future husband, Phil Barnett, at the age of 15. They were married years later in February of 1977. Together they welcomed 2 children Corinne and Cole, before moving to Scottsdale, Arizona in 1981. 3 years later they welcomed their 3rd child Jesse. Lifelong friends and incredible memories were made in Arizona before the family moved to San Juan Island, Washington in 1989.

Jane was an amazing caregiver for over 3 decades. She helped many people, especially at the end of their life, always with deep love and care. She lived and worked in Bend Oregon for 11 years before moving back to San Juan Island in 2016.

She was a devoted mother and grandmother, not only to her own blood, but to countless others over the years earning her the name, Mama Jane or simply MJ. She took many under her wing, taking them into her home and offering motherly advice. Her heart exploded with love for all. She lived a life full of love and compassion, radiating joy and positivity! Her favorite saying was "wherever you go, there you are" and she truly lived by this, making the best of every situation with a smile. Her smile, shining eyes and laugh was unforgettable. No matter what, her humor was intact.

In 2007 she became an ordained minister to marry dear friends and went on to officiate many weddings over the years, including her daughter's wedding in 2021 and her youngest son's wedding just 5 months prior to her death. She leaves a mark of love on so many and will be dearly missed.

JANE WAS ABLE TO LIVE HER LIFE IN THE WAYS IMPORTANT TO HER. THE LAST 9 MONTHS, SHE LIVED FEELING COMFORT, JOY, PEACE AND TRULY ENJOYING LIFE.

She is survived by her three children, daughter Corrine Coxey and son-in-law Aaron Coxey of Bend, Oregon, son Cole Barnett of Friday Harbor, Washington, son Jesse Barnett and daughter-in-law Flynn Barnett of Friday Harbor, Washington and her beloved granddaughters Opal O'Shea and Gwendolyn O'Shea and grandson Jackson Coxey of Bend, Oregon.

Her family wishes to thank the exceptional hospice workers who cared for her in Friday Harbor (Hospice of the Northwest) and in Sunriver (Partners in Care). Also a huge thanks to Thaddeus and Leslie Dancer for their incredible hospitality to Jane in her final months and to the countless friends for their love and support.

As she made lifelong friendships everywhere she lived, there will be three memorial celebrations in Los Angeles, Scottsdale and on San Juan Island in the coming months.
