1st portion of Rosario Resort purchased for $6.5 million, sale recorded April 8

Sale of Rosario Resort on Orcas Island is being done in stages. The $6.5 million sale of the first portion was recorded April 8, 2024 in San Juan County. Empower Investing, a group of Orcas Islanders, is purchasing the historic resort and is planning on restoration and adding amenities.

Bill Ensures Grant Funding to Conserve Bird Habitat, Boost Outdoor Economy

 WASHINGTON, D.C. – On Tuesday, April 9, 2024, Rep. Rick Larsen (WA-02) applauded House passage of the Migratory Birds of the Americas Conservation Enhancements Act, a bipartisan bill introduced by Reps. Larsen, Maria Elvira Salazar (FL-27), David Joyce (OH-14) and Mary Peltola (AK-At Large) to reauthorize and improve the Neotropical Migratory Bird Conservation Act (NMBCA), the only federal grant initiative to promote the conservation of migratory birds.

Sheriff's Log San Juan Islands April 3-9, 2024: 2 deaths from natural causes, lots of failure to wear seat belts citations, trespassing, threats

San Juan County Deputies responded to 165 calls from April 3-9, 2024 including: A Friday Harbor business reported someone having broken in and sleeping inside the business. No damage was done to the entry and nothing was stolen. An investigation is currently underway. A Deputy on San Juan Island took a report of theft of a Pride Foundation sign out of a yard. At this time, there is no suspect information or workable leads. A report was completed. A Lopez Island Deputy and Lopez Island Fire & EMS were dispatched to a CPR ALS call turned Death Investigation. The scene was investigated, and the death appeared to be of natural causes. Evan's Funeral Home was contacted, and the incident was documented.
