San Juan County Sheriff Ron Krebs running for re-election

Law enforcement has changed dramatically in recent years but one thing that has not changed is my commitment to you, the citizens of San Juan County. Today I am proud to announce my candidacy for re-election for a third term as your San Juan County Sheriff. One of my proudest achievements is the quality of the men and women I have assembled to work in my office. This dedicated team of professionals are some of the hardest working and most caring individuals I have been privileged to know. Day-in and day-out they serve the community with unparalleled professionalism and sincere concern.
Great strides have been made in the technology and procedures of my office. In 2017 I spearheaded the Codan radio project. This state-of-the-art communications system replaces an antiquated radio network and goes live next month. This radio system allows the first responders of San Juan County to have clearer communications which provides better life saving capabilities and increased safety for all.
Good leadership is a cornerstone in fostering better relationships within our community so I, along with my entire command staff, have completed the FBI LEEDA trilogy of courses. These courses promote among many values, leadership, accountability, and integrity and will strengthen those values and help foster better relationships.
One of the leading concerns in law enforcement today is mental health and domestic violence. With the passage of Initiative 940, I initiated the state mandated de-escalation training for all of our deputies and as of today we are one of the leading agencies statewide for completing the training in full.
And finally we have begun the WASPC Accreditation process to assure we are always keeping up with state and national best practices. We are on schedule to complete this process by early fall when we will become one of only a handful of accredited law enforcement agencies in the State of Washington.
My background as a United States Marine Corp veteran, along with 20 years of management experience and 15 years in law enforcement, have provided a solid leadership foundation for my position as Sheriff. I currently serve on the board of directors for Safe San Juans, San Juan Prevention Coalition, COY (Coalition for Orcas Youth) and am a former San Juan Island EMT Rookie of the Year. My wife, Barbara and I have been married for 10 years and what happens in this county matters to me, not just as Sheriff, but as a husband, father, soon-to-be grandfather and neighbor.
I greatly look forward to serving another 4 years as your Sheriff and will work tirelessly to ensure San Juan County remains a safe community and to uphold our island's way of life.
